A heart warming story of how a pink hamper box from Mentone Golf Club’s ‘Breast Cancer Charity Day’ raffle found its way to the Dirranbandi Breast Cancer Support Group, some 1,300 kms away, to continue its journey in promoting the joy of giving.

I was preparing for my trip up the coast of Victoria, through NSW and to  Queensland when I learnt that I had won a special hamper from the MGC Breast Cancer Charity Day raffle.  What a wonderful surprise and I was overjoyed when the hamper was delivered to my home by Cathy Dixon.

The beautifully decorated pink hamper was filled with treasures that were full of fun which I decided I will share with some of my friends.  I kept the ‘Looking Good’ bath mat and coffee cup for myself.  To the first friend, who had breast cancer, I gave a coffee cup, tea towel and chocolates. To another friend, who also had breast cancer, I shared the champagne, slippers and chocolates.

I decided that the pink box with its remaining treasures will accompany me on my trip.

We found ourselves at Dirranbandi, a small inland town in Queensland that is slightly north of Lighting Ridge.  Its a town full of character with a tight community feel to it.

I happen to be at the town park, looking at a plaque that had the Breast Cancer symbol with some beautiful words written beneath when I noticed a lady with her two kids walking towards me.  She wore a hot pink T-shirt and a smile.  I thought I’d ask her if she knew of a local breast cancer support group.  To my surprise, she did!

This was how that big pink box made its way to the Dirranbandi Breast Cancer Support group’s next fundraising event.
