Howlong 2023
Posted on: 15 April
This year marked the 35th year of the Club’s annual trip to Howlong.
26 of us set off in the bus at 7.30am on Sunday morning for the 4 hour trip to Howlong. The time went by quickly with bingo, quizzes and plenty of chatter on the bus and a stop at the Avenel Winery for morning tea. Lunch after arrival at Howlong was followed by a 9 hole Ambrose event to familiarise us with the course and hone our skills for the next two days’ stableford events.
The weather was warm and pleasant with no sign of the rain that Melbourne was experiencing. On Monday we played 18 holes of Stableford (some played 9 ) and then set our minds to completing the activity of making a costume for the Coronation. This was won by Charmaine Jansz, Anne Keogh and Megan Crosser.
Then there was a lot of fun with pre dinner drinks at the Gazebo and listening to Dawn Watt’s jokes and anyone else who may add to the humour and announcing winners of the golfing events for Sunday and Monday.
The next morning we played 9 holes stableford then back on the bus for home.
Gail Wyatt was the overall winner and took home the much coveted Miss Howlong Trophy. Congratulations Gail. Jenny Addison was runner up.
Thank you to Krys Bennett and Dawn Foy who do a magnificent job organising the trip away and ensuring that it all runs smoothly. We all had a very enjoyable and memorable time.
